Dr. Electra Allenton, N.D., L.Ac.
Dr. Electra Allenton is a Naturopathic Physician and Acupuncturist who focuses entirely on mental / emotional / behavioral health. She works as a team with your primary care providers and psychotherapists/counselors, and provides out-patient care to bring ease and stability for a wide variety of mental health issues.
We don’t come into the world with a users manual, and being in the world causes our strategies and reactions to change over time; you and Dr. Allenton can work together to figure out and fine tune what it takes for you to survive and thrive!
Her commitment to grounded and attentive bedside manner extends even out to her warm hands when she takes your pulse. She enjoys working with adults and adolescents alike, and always obtains consent and active patient involvement for her treatments.
Your care begins with a long intake of 105 minutes. Treatments are informed by genetic, blood and urine lab testing, and so the next visit is intensive lab review and interpretation approximately 3 weeks later. After those two visits, you work together to fine tune what works on a monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual basis.
Based off of your lab results and her biomedical and acupuncture assessment, she provides orthomolecular psychiatry, amino acid neurotransmitter balancing, targeted nutrition, gentle TCM or Five Element acupuncture and moxibustion, Western and East Asian botanical formulas, homeopathy and flower essences, Aroma Acupoint Therapy, Shiatsu and Sotai bodywork, lifestyle counseling, and genetic assay-informed pharmaceutical management, depending on what is needed at that point in your life.
Dr. Allenton earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine and her Masters of Science Oriental Medicine from the National University of Natural Medicine in 2016, and her Bachelor of Arts in General Science from Grinnell College in 2005. She completed a CNME approved residency at The Amenda Clinic, which informs her care. She has completed the Walsh Research Institute Training, Aroma Acupoint Therapy training, and New England School of Homeopathy training; and she was mentored for 2+ years in university by David Berkshire, LAc.
Her experience is centered in integrative clinics ranging from major hospitals to non-profit community clinics, where she collaborates with medical professionals of every sort to ensure the best opportunities and care for the patient. In her spare time, she voraciously listens to podcasts and reads novels, knits mittens, has living room dance parties, and goes out to brunch with her husband Roy. Her favorite medicines are Calendula and Gan Cao/Glycyrrhiza
Special Interests: Mental / Emotional / Behavioral Health: anxiety; adjustment; depression; childhood, interpersonal, or combat trauma; insomnia and sleep disorders; addictions and harm-reduction; disordered eating; and behavioral disorders. She seeks to ensure her clinic room is a safe space for LGBTQA+ concerns and for bodies of any size, continuing to learn with humility.
